EV Charger Installation in Lombard, IL

Homes near Lilacia Park, condos around Yorktown Center, and busy business corridors, all permitted through Lombard's own Building Division.

Lombard lies two towns east of Wheaton on the Metra Union Pacific West line, with Glen Ellyn in between. The village is known for Lilacia Park, an 8.5-acre garden designed by Jens Jensen on land from Colonel William Plum, and for a Lilac Time festival held since 1930.

Charging needs vary across town. Single-family homes near downtown often suit a garage charger. Condo and apartment buildings around Yorktown Center bring association rules into play, and the Roosevelt Road and Butterfield Road corridors hold many businesses that may want stations of their own.

Services

EV Charging Services in Lombard

Lombard requests split between houses and multi-unit buildings. If an older unit stops charging, start with charger repair and troubleshooting. Neighboring Glen Ellyn works under an older code edition, so rules shift at the border.

Level 2 Home Charger

A dedicated 240V circuit and a wall-mounted charger, sized to your panel, your car, and Wheaton's wiring rules.

NEMA 14-50 Outlet

A 50A, 240V receptacle for a plug-in charger, with GFCI protection and a heavy-duty receptacle built for nightly use.

Panel Upgrade

A load calculation first, then a service upgrade or load management, so your panel can carry an EV charger safely.

Condo and HOA Charging

Illinois law protects a condo or HOA owner's right to charge in their own unit or designated space, with clear rules for common areas.

Commercial and Workplace

Level 2 banks and DC charging stations for offices, retail, churches, and apartment lots, planned around power and parking.

Repair and Troubleshooting

Breaker trips, GFCI faults, heat damage, cold-weather glitches, and app problems, sorted into safe checks and electrician work.

Where Do Lombard Charger Permits Come From?

The Building Division in Lombard's Community Development Department, at 255 E. Wilson Avenue, handles charger permits. The Village says all electrical work needs a permit, and applications move through its Citizenserve portal. Questions can go to permits@villageoflombard.org.

The Village lists walk-in hours of Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and phone hours of Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office covers Village limits only, and the 60148 ZIP also reaches some unincorporated pockets that answer to the County instead.

What Does Lombard Require From Electricians?

Electrical contractors register with the Village every year, pay an annual registration fee, and file a certificate of insurance. With no statewide license in Illinois, they show a license from a municipality that tests electricians. Registration in Wheaton does not carry over to Lombard.

Per the Village FAQ, homeowners may generally do their own work under a permit, but an electrical service upgrade must be done by a licensed electrician. If your charger needs a panel or service upgrade, plan on hiring one.

What Does the 2023 NEC Mean for a Lombard Charger?

Lombard enforces the 2023 National Electrical Code alongside the 2024 building codes, the same electrical edition Wheaton uses. That brings current rules on GFCI protection, continuous-load sizing, and load management systems that can cap a charger instead of forcing a bigger service.

For a hardwired Level 2 charger or a NEMA 14-50 outlet, the inspector checks breaker size, wire gauge, and grounding against that edition.

Can My Lombard Condo Association Say No?

Not to a charger in your own deeded or assigned space. The Illinois Electric Vehicle Charging Act voids association rules that ban or unreasonably restrict owner charging. Gear in a common area still needs written approval and a license agreement. The condo and HOA guide covers the request and metering.

Businesses on Roosevelt and Butterfield Roads can review commercial and workplace charging for customer lots and fleet parking.
